Offerings The NPDN Wants YOU to respond to the national review panel's recommendations! The review documents are available on the NPDN homepage at www.npdn.org, along with a form for recording your comments and responses. Have or need images of pests, pathogens, or plants for training or identification purposes? A new resource, www.ipmimages.org is available as a product of a collaboration between the Bugwood Network, SPDN, and the Southern Region IPM Center. Read the July update here and see how your images can be added to a searchable, referencable database (they'll scan your slides for you!). New Website for First Detector Registration The new and improved training and education website (version 3.0) was released on Monday, July 2, 2007 http://cbc.at.ufl.edu/. You will be able to register for upcoming sessions in your state and view details regarding your enrolled coursework. An online version of the NPDN training program is currently under review and will be available on this site during fall 2007. Read the Training update for this month and catch a glimpse of the new format here. Pest and Pathogen News Soybean rust reports: Active sites have been detected in Oklahoma, Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas, in sentinel plots and commercial fields, kudzu and soybeans. A new detection of Emerald Ash Borer in PA (From the PS DCNR website at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/fpm_invasives_EAB.aspx): On June 21, 2007, emerald ash borer was detected for the first time in the state in Cranberry township, Butler County , PA by two USDA APHIS surveyors. They collected two adults using a sweep net while conducting visual surveys that are part of the joint EAB taskforce detection effort. State and federal officials are currently working to intensify surveys near the detection site in order to determine the extent and severity of the infestation. PA Department of Agriculture has imposed a quarantine in Butler , Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence Counties to slow the spread of emerald ash borer. The quarantine is designed to help slow the spread of the beetle. Pennsylvania's quarantine restricts the movement of ash nursery stock, green lumber and any other ash material, including logs, stumps, roots and branches, and all wood chips from the quarantined area. Due to the difficulty in distinguishing between species of hardwood firewood, all hardwood firewood-including ash, oak, maple and hickory-are considered quarantined.

Plan Now for the 2007 National Soybean Rust Symposium The Sixth International IPM Symposium, "Transcending Boundaries," will be held in Portland, Oregon March 24-26, 2009 at the Portland Convention Center. The Fifth IPM Symposium, held in 2006, attracted more than 650 research, education, government, industry and environmental and health professionals from 23 countries for three days of presentations, networking and organizational meetings on key pest management issues.
